EASTERN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
TEACHER CADET: Students from Roxanne Beeman’s first-grade class at Eastern Elementary School enjoy a lesson taught by Washington High School teacher cadet Samantha McClure. The teacher cadets are such great assets to our school. The children love having these role models come into the classroom to work with them one-on-one and in small groups. The first-graders had been studying about goods and services and wants and needs. Samantha taught a wonderful lesson using the story, “A Chair for My Mother,” by Vera B. Williams to enable the children to apply what they had learned about this social studies objective. The children worked in small cooperative groups to sort pictures by wants and needs. They recorded the names of the items on charts as they discussed which items were necessary to live and which ones they could live without. The children at Eastern are so fortunate to be able to interact with these older students and look up to them.
