RALEIGH — Isaac Boerema received the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association’s Meritorious Service Award at the association’s 49th annual meeting in Durham, N.C., on Jan. 13. The award recognizes one producer and one individual in the industry for their outstanding contributions to the state’s soybean farmers. Boerema, a farmer from Hyde County, received the Meritorious Service Award in recognition of his volunteer service to the soybean industry and for his leadership of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association’s research committee, which evaluated its strategic direction in 2015, identified the need for a new staff position overseeing research funded by the soy check-off and led the committee to hire someone for the role. The award was presented by Jeff Peed, president of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association. Commissioner Steve Troxler of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services participated in the ceremony.

Boerema farms 1,200 acres of soybeans, as well as wheat and corn, with his father and uncle in Pantego. He has served on the board of directors of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association since 2013 and on the board of directors for the Farm Bureau of Hyde County since 2007. He is a member of the Blacklands Farm Managers Association, where he served on the board of directors from 2004-2014 and was president from 2009-2014.
