GIRLS: SOUTHSIDE 46, SOUTH CREEK 42
ROBERSONVILLE — Southside and South Creek entered the fourth quarter tied and the Lady Seahawks came out on top 46-42. They were led by strong long-range shooting by Symone Ruffin and Michawla Dixon. The two combined for nine 3s.
Ten steals helped fuel the Southside offense. Previous Gaynor and Ruffin combined for nine of those. The Lady Seahawks were also helped in their own end by 14 offensive rebounds.
Southside jumped out to a 12-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Manteo came back and took a three-point lead into halftime, but got outscored 14-10 in the final period in the losing effort to the Seahawks.
GIRLS: MANTEO 54, NORTHSIDE 52
MANTEO — Northside’s 18-point fourth quarter was nearly enough to erase three quarters of subpar defense, but Manteo was able to hold off the visiting Lady Panthers for a 54-52 win on Monday.
Meredith Booth and Maya Flowers scored 21 and 16 points, respectively, for the homstanding Lady Redskins. Quortasia Clark’s 18 points led Northside. Rachel Lang also poured in 14.
Manteo built a 50-34 lead by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Panthers’ defense flipped the switch in the fourth and held the home team to just four points in the last eight minutes.
Meanwhile, the offense amassed 18 fourth-quarter points.
The plan will be for that fourth-quarter performance to carry over to Friday’s game at Southside.
BOYS: NORTHSIDE 46, MANTEO 41
MANTEO — Northside scored 13 points in each of the first two quarters to build a 26-18 lead to help hang on for a 46-41 lead at Manteo on Monday. The non-conference win is the Panthers’ ninth of the season and helps build momentum ahead of Friday’s showdown at Southside.
The hosting Redskins outscored Northside 13-9 in the fourth, but the late push wasn’t enough to overcome the nine-point deficit they faced entering the final stretch.
