From MATTIE Arts Center

DRAWING WORKSHOPS | March 10, 17, 24 and 31 | 6-8 p.m.

The classes will begin with instruction on basic drawing, shapes, a little on perspective, techniques, shading and highlights. Students will begin with pencil, the most versatile of drawing media and good for precision and control. Students will also discuss and work with different mediums as the workshop progresses. A workshop fee of $70 includes all materials: sketch book, various pencils, charcoal and erasers to keep. Other tools and materials will be provided for use during classes. For those who wish to continue developing their skills at the conclusion of the workshop, information will be given on drawing tools, materials, their uses and where to purchase them. Instructor is Kaye Lee Brady of Utah, recently of Pantego.

FINE ARTS-PORTRAITS | Impressionist Oil Painting | March 19 | 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students will begin with comprehensive instruction on facial construction and perspective, followed by developing their drawing skills with shading and highlighting in pencil, then advancing to painting. Live model will be provided for the afternoon portion of this class. $50 instruction fee and $10 supply fee. Instructor is Mark Hierholzer of Richmond/Swan Quarter.

JUTE MAT CROCHETING | April 2 | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Depending on skill level, students may not need the entire day to finish their project, but we are allowing a full day just in case! Working with supple jute from a 300-yard spool (enough to complete two 24-inch-by-34-inch oval rugs), students will learn how to crochet a simple oval rug suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Materials and tools are included in the enrollment fee, and the big bonus is that students get to keep it. About half of a spool will be left over so students can continue another project at their leisure. Cost is $70 per person, with a maximum of eight students.

STAINED GLASS | May 7 and 14| 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. | $100 all inclusive

FINE ARTS WORKSHOP | En Plein Aire, weather permitting | May 21 | 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. | $50
