A group of talented young Beaufort County residents is preparing for an evening of fine dining and dance entertainment.
Members of Washington’s Centerstage Dance Company will perform during a fundraising benefit planned for March 4, according to board member and event organizer Gwen Jordan.
“This is our annual dinner theater,” Jordan said. “We’ve probably been doing it at least 10 years or maybe longer.”
The event will be held at the Washington Civic Center and advance tickets are available now for a $15 donation. The menu features Italian chicken, string beans, buttered potatoes, rolls, tea or coffee and a dessert. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner theater begins at 7 p.m., Jordan said.
The evening’s festivities also include three raffles, with more than 60 prizes donated by local businesses and individuals.
Centerstage Dance Company’s home base is the Dance Works Performing Arts Center on Market Street in downtown Washington.
Along with performances by the dance company, students from Dance Works have also been invited to showcase their talents. Performers’ ages range from 8 to 18 years old, according to Jordan. Dance styles featured during the show will include tap, pointe, jazz, character and lyrical.
Proceeds from the benefit will help foot the bills for Centerstage Dance Company’s upcoming competitions; those expenses include entry fees, dance costumes, lodging and transportation costs. The company is scheduled to compete March 11-13 in a regional event held at Louisburg College, as well as a national competition planned for July 20-24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Dinner theater tickets may be purchased at Dance Works, located at 149 N. Market St. in Washington. Additional information is available at www.danceworkscenterstage.com by calling 252-943-1146.
