Mrs. Mary Marcia Sawyer Jarvis, age 93, a resident of 603 Elliott Road, Bath, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2016 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Kent Gurganus.
Mrs. Jarvis was born in Beaufort County on September 9, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Samuel S. Sawyer and Marcia Cutler Sawyer. Mrs. Jarvis was a retired supervisor of the Marking Room at Belk’s with 26 years of service. She was a member of Everett’s Church of Christ. In her spare time, Mrs. Jarvis loved to travel, meet new people and cook.
On October 18, 1941, Mrs. Jarvis married Ralph Burbage Jarvis, who preceded her in death, October 30, 1996.
Mrs. Jarvis is survived by three sons, Sam Jarvis, Billy Jarvis and wife, Phyllis, all of Bath, Larry Jarvis of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Bryan Jarvis and Tiffany of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Todd Jarvis, Sam Jarvis Jr., Chris Jarvis and Jennifer, Mike Jarvis and Melissa Jarvis, all of Bath; seven great-grandchildren, Harrison Jarvis, Logan Jarvis, Hope Jarvis, Ashton Burgess, Kelsey Burgess, Abby Jarvis and Zachary Jarvis and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Jarvis; a daughter, Linda Jarvis; a brother, Thornton Sawyer and a sister, Ruby Jefferson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Phyllis Jarvis, 174 Elliott Road, Bath.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Hospice of one’s choice.
