Mamie Louise Holliday Roberson
Dec. 24, 1921 – Feb. 28, 2016
Mamie Louise Holliday Roberson, 94 years young, died February 28, 2016 at Martin General Hospital in Williamston, NC. Mamie was born December 24, 1921 in the Poplar Chapel neighborhood of Jamesville, NC, to Ludie R. Hardison Holliday and Roland B. Holliday.
The family will receive visitors at the home at 1070 St. Andrews Street, Jamesville, until the visitation on Wednesday evening, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Jamesville United Methodist Church. A celebration of her life will be held at the church on Thursday, March 3 at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Larris Tolson, followed by a short graveside service in the Jamesville Cemetery.
Mamie (called Peggy by her husband of 60 years, Alva R. “Red” Roberson) owned and operated an ESSO service station and later, East 90 Hardware in Jamesville. Family was her greatest joy in life, reflected by the fact that her husband, children and grandchildren call her the “sweetest, most loving and caring wife, mother and nana ever.”
After retirement Mamie enjoyed traveling around the country with Red but her favorite times were when they were with family. After Red passed, she enjoyed weekly trips to exercise classes in Williamston with her dear friend and neighbor, Katie. She loved her church family, too, and attended regularly until her health began to decline.
She is survived by her daughters, Deane Phelps (Bailey) and Amy Hardison (Jimmy). Grandchildren are Jeff Phelps (Crystal) and their children Nick and Holly; Jason Phelps and daughters Samantha and Taylor; Jennifer H. Congleton (Scott) and children Payton, Cooper and Seth; Jamy Hardison and sons Landon and Jackson. She was loved dearly by all of her children and grandchildren. Even her great-granddogs Boo, Shadow, Sassy and Jack watched over her intently.
Her only surviving sibling is Brightmon N. Holliday and wife Betty of Charlotte. Deceased siblings are Ellsworth, Burdon and Leon Holliday and Evelyn H. Haskins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamesville Fire and EMS Department, PO Box 17, Jamesville, NC.
Arrangements are being handled by Walker Funeral Home of Williamston, NC, and condolences may be made on their website at www.walkerfh.net.
