From Beaufort County Schools

Student Transfer Applications are now available for the 2016-2017 school year. The applications, available online or at the child’s school, must be completed in order for the student’s transfer request to be considered for the next school year. Requests must be submitted to the school of intended enrollment no later than June 1.

Dr. Don Phipps, superintendent of Beaufort County Schools, is currently monitoring enrollment numbers and available occupancy for each building. Due to enrollment numbers that have buildings at 95-percent capacity or higher, the following schools are currently closed to new transfers: Eastern Elementary School, John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School and Washington High School.

“New transfers” refers to a transfer request that is being made for the very first time for a child. Transfers that are requested historically for a child, as well as siblings of this child who are just beginning school or moving to the district, will be accepted.

Other schools are currently at 90- to 95-percent capacity. Administrators are closely watching these schools. If the capacity exceeds 95 percent, the school will be closed to new transfers. The schools being closely monitored at this time are P.S. Jones Middle School, Chocowinity Middle School, Chocowinity Primary School and Bath Elementary School. Decisions on the status of these schools will be made following the district’s kindergarten registration window.

Beaufort County residents will receive first consideration for transfer requests.

Transfer request forms are available at www.beaufort.k12.nc.us under the PARENT tab or a form may be requested from the front desk at any school in the district.
