From Brown Library

Spring is just around the corner, and there is no place better to shake off the winter blues than the library. Now is the perfect time to start planning that vegetable garden you’ve always wanted. We have a wide range of books on homesteading and self-sufficiency that will be sure to have you cooking and canning your bounty in no time.

Would you like to check out library books from the comfort of your own home, but can’t quite wrap your head around how to do it? Make an appointment for our Tech Help Thursdays. Every Thursday in March, we’re offering personal, one-on-one assistance with all your Overdrive, eReader and eLibrary questions. Call the library at 252-946-4300 to book your appointment.

If you’ve already got a handle on your eReading device, this is the perfect time to join the world’s first global eBook club: Big Library Read. Starting March 17 and running through March 31, library patrons can download a free copy of Chris Kyle’s bestselling memoir, “American Sniper,” from our eLibrary. Discuss the book, get further reading recommendations, and more with library users across the nation. Visit our website or Facebook for further details.

The adventure continues. Join Brown Library in celebrating the latest film release from Veronica Roth’s Divergent series. Sixth- through 12th-graders are invited to come out March 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and enjoy trivia, a costume contest, snacks and prizes. Please note that while parents, caretakers and younger siblings are welcome to attend, only those within the sixth- to 12th-grade age range will be eligible to win prizes. Registration is required.

That’s not the only opportunity for teens to hang out at the library. On March 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., we will be hosting an all-day marathon art project. This event involves painting and “modpodging,” so all skill levels are welcome. All art supplies and a pizza lunch will be provided by the library. This event is for sixth- through 12th-graders, and registration is also required.

To register for our teen events, call the library to reserve your spot, or register online on our website.

Brown Library will be closed for the hours of 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on March 24 for staff development. The library will also be closed March 25 through March 27 in observance of Easter. We will reopen on March 28 at 10 a.m. and resume our normal operating hours.

Visit our website at http://washington-nc.libguides.com or call the library at 252-946-4300 for details or questions about our resources or upcoming events.

Brown Library is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays; and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
