One person has been confirmed dead after an accident Saturday afternoon on U.S. Highway 264 East, where it splits with N.C. Highway 92.

According to reports, there were two cars involved, although only a small, red car was visible at the scene. Traffic was blocked off and rerouted from both directions. Highway Patrol has confirmed that another person was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center. There is no word on the individual’s condition.

Authorities are not releasing the identity of the deceased at this time or any further information about the circumstances of the accident. Media was not allowed in close proximity of the accident.
