From Beaufort County Community College

 

Gamma Beta Phi, the honor society at Beaufort County Community College, inducted new members into its organization on March 23.

Erica Caracoglia, faculty advisor for the group, named the requirements and thanked the members for their hard work. She pointed out that everyone in the group has a challenge that he or she had to overcome, be it a family or a full-time job, to continue academic success. President Courtney Coltrain and Vice President Jacob Sadler presented new inductees with pins.

Members have to be presently enrolled at BCCC and must be committed to excellence in education, to good character and to service. They must have completed 12 or more semester hours of college work and pay the one-time national membership fee of $60, along with local dues of $8 per semester. Members cannot have their grades drop below a GPA of 3.2. They cannot be absent from two regular meetings without justifiable excuse.

The group conducted a food drive for the Food Bank of the Albemarle last year as its service project. In the past, the group has raised funds for organizations like Ruth’s House.

The new inductees were: Gerardo Alvarez-Gallegos, Heather Berkey, Isheia Blanch, Denise “Dennie” Bolafka, Audra Boyd, Sheena Bunch, Shakera Davis, Betsy Farnsley, Linda Fulford, Megan Godley, Bernadine Hedrick, Haley Hodges, Chelsea Huggins, Leah Jones, Christy Jones, Alantus Keyes, Tiffany Knickerbocker, Christine LeCompte, Laura Nichols, Carmen O’Neal, Shannon Pake, Zachary Paramore, Kelsey Powell, Anita Purser, Joanna Revels, John Richards, William Sadler, Rachael Sears, Megan Smith, Jasmine Spencer, Diann Stoddard, Winnie Washington, Elaine Waters, Erin Waters, Rebecca Williams, Franchesca Williams, Ashley Woolard and Marta Zenil Martinez.
