Marilyn Ruth Hauger Roth, 82, of Washington, and former resident of Crystal, MN, and Conifer, CO, died March 18, 2016. Marilyn was born in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Einar and Ruth Hauger. She was a graduate of the University of MN with a degree in journalism. She married Herman N. Roth, who preceded her in death in 2007. Herman was an oil and gas accounting manager for Apache Corp., first headquartered in MN then in Denver, CO. Marilyn was an editor and writer for the Post Publications, a local newspaper serving the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. Her gift of being a good friend to many, her love of the arts and service to her community and church marked her life. She was one of the founding members of the Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis, serving as a board member and chairman of the board. She managed a small art gallery and served as chair for St. Lawrence Episcopal Church Outreach Program in Conifer, CO. An active member of St. Peter’s Church, Washington, she served as lay reader, book club leader and was involved in writing a number of Christmas pageants based on the Christmas Gospel. Most notably, she wrote a musical with Jane Speer, celebrating the 175th anniversary of the church. Marilyn also served as a board member, chair and fundraiser for the BCAC, now the Arts of the Pamlico. Marilyn is survived by two sons: Charles (Laura), Council Bluffs, IA, and William (Jennifer) and their children, Bailey and Ben, Buffalo, MN, and great friend Alex Jacklin and family, Hillsborough, Calif. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, April 8th at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 101 N Bonner St, Washington, NC 27889. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Building Fund at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Washington, or the Ronald McDonald House, 818 Fulton St SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
