WASHINGTON EVENING ROTARY CLUB
NEW PROGRAMS: Beaufort County Community College’s Stacey Gerard and Lou Stout spoke about new programs for the college at a recent Rotary meeting. Gerard (left) and Stout (center) are pictured here with Rotary program director Betty Gray.

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members and guests moved to the Pamlico Room for their meal and meeting.

President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and Zeno Edwards led in the Pledge Of Allegiance. Bartow Houston led the group in one verse of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” and Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

After a fine meal and conversation President McLawhorn called on program chairman Betty Gray to introduce the speakers for the evening. Beaufort County Community College Vice President of Continuing Education Stacey Gerard and Director of Workforce Initiative Lou Stout shared information about one of the college’s newest endeavors. Hopefully, a Culinary Arts program will be under way by September. The kitchen in Building 8 on the campus is under renovation at present. A commercial-grade kitchen with three pods will have the capacity to hopefully accommodate 12 to 16 students. The 10-week program has been in the works for some time and Mrs. Gerard and Mrs. Stout are very excited and pleased to offer this to our community. This program will prepare a better workforce for restaurants in need of knowledgeable employees. The meeting concluded as Sandy Mitchell led members in reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
