Mr. Mitchell Edward Whitley, age 73, a resident of 3945 Slatestone Road, Washington, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 28, at Rosemary Church of Christ, conducted by Marty Alligood and Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: his nephews Gray McDonald, John McDonald, T. J. McDonald, Clarence Whitley Jr., Chad Whitley, Brad Narron, Bradley Narron and Jesse Narron.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry House, Mike Gillis, Harold Alligood, Troy Lane, Richard Gerard, Aron Douglas, Dave Lee, C.H. Wallace and Benton Parker.
Mr. Whitley was born in Washington on July 12, 1942. He was the son of Milton Edward Whitley and Mary Elizabeth Boyd Whitley. Mr. Whitley was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 44 years, retiring as Parts Manager at Hastings Ford in Greenville. While employed at Hastings Ford, he received the Medallion Manager Awards for Outstanding Achievement for 1989 and 1990, which was the first time consecutive awards had been presented in the Charlotte District. Since his retirement, Mr. Whitley worked with his son at Whitley AgriSpray. He was an active member of Rosemary Church of Christ as long as his health permitted. In his spare time, Mr. Whitley liked to travel, manicure his lawn and spend time “at the barn.”
On November 29, 1964, Mr. Whitley married the former Anna Kay Woolard. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; three sons, Shane Whitley & wife Kara of Washington; Stephen Whitley & wife Debbie of Washington and Stewart Whitley & wife Anna of Kinston, NC; six grandchildren, Courtland & Micah Whitley, Josie Keech, Jordan, Rebecca & Ian Whitley. Mr. Whitley is also survived by his brother, Clarence Whitley & wife Debra and his sister, Martha McDonald & husband George, all of Washington, and several nieces & nephews.
Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Edward Whitley and Mary Elizabeth Boyd Whitley; a son, Mitchell Edward Whitley Jr. and a daughter, Angela Michelle Whitley.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday night at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at his home.
