Veteran educator receives Golden Key Award

Mary Alice Chapin of Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was awarded the Golden Key Award at Delta Kappa Gamma’s state convention on April 22. Sheila Groves, Eta State president, and other state officials conducted the meeting.
The Golden Key Award is awarded annually to an outstanding educator or retired educator in each of the 11 districts of Eta State. Chapin, who has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for more than 40 years and has served as president of her chapter for three terms, has demonstrated leadership in the community, as well as to Delta Kappa Gamma. The recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and the East Carolina Education Hall of Fame, Chapin is active in her church and community. She is a dedicated worker for public education and has served as a mentor to numerous teachers throughout her career.
Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma is a global service organization with approximately 76,000 members in 17 different countries. Members include professional women educators in both the private and public sectors. Selection is based on professional qualifications, leadership potential and personal qualities. The North Carolina organization (Eta State) has 104 chapters with more than 4,300 members. Alpha Omega Chapter currently has 52 members.
