Arts of the Pamlico, located at the historic Turnage Theatre in downtown Washington is pleased to announce its schedule of summer camps for youth. AOP will present five weeks of performing arts activities for rising 1st through 10th grades.

“Let’s Make A Movie Camp” will run June 13-17. This is a unique camp that involves all of the exciting aspects of filmmaking, from story creation to acting on film. They will learn film terms and experience what it is like to be a big-screen star. At the end of the week, family, and friends are invited to a “premiere” of the film on June 17 at 7 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre. DVD copies of the film will be given to each participant.

“Let’s Put On A Play Camp” will run June 20-24. Students will create and produce an original play. This is a unique start to finish activity that fully encompasses all

aspects of the play-making process. The children learn basic dramatic skills and devices through improvisational exercises, continuing into the creation and fruition of an entire play. The culmination of the workshop will result in a performance for family and friends on June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre.

Steve Myott will be the instructor for both weeks of camp. Two age groups are provided for each camp; ages 6-8 will meet from 9 a.m. until noon, and ages 9-12 will meet from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. daily. Tuition is $95 for AOP Family members and $120 for nonmembers, and includes all supplies, daily snacks and a camp T-shirt. Spaces are limited.

“Broadway Kids Camp” will run July 25-Aug. 13 and is open to rising 1st through 10th graders. From the audition process through to performance, students will be exposed to all aspects of theater — rehearsal, costumes, make-up, theater protocol and more. Joseph Dylan Ritch will direct. In association with Music Theatre International Kids Series, AOP will present two performances of “DISNEY’S CINDERRELLA KIDS” on Aug. 13. The performances will be ticketed and open to the public.
