From Aurora Fossil Museum 

AURORA — Aurora Fossil Museum held the grand opening for its newly renovated PotashCorp Mine Room. Present at the opening were Jeremy Pierce, PotashCorp-Aurora mine manager, Steve Paschall, engineering consultant, Maria Gerber, museum board member, Ray McKeithan, government and public affairs manager, Clif Williams, mayor of Aurora and N.C. Rep. Michael Speciale.

PotashCorp, a generous supporter of the Aurora Fossil Museum, funded the renovation of the Mine Room. The original Mine Room, which opened in 1979, was developed to introduce museum visitors to the neighboring phosphate mine and the geology underneath Aurora.

The newly renovated PotashCorp Mine Room will offer the opportunity for visitors of all ages to peer into the modern-day, state-of-the-art processes of mining phosphate at the neighboring PotashCorp-Aurora mine. Not only will visitors learn about phosphate, they will also be introduced to the geology of the local area and the fossils that have been discovered as a result of the mining process.

The Aurora Fossil Museum thanks PotashCorp for their generosity and partnership in educating the public on the natural history of eastern North Carolina through funding this project.
