From Brown Library
Summer has officially arrived at the library with the start of the Summer Reading Program. This year, the theme is, “On Your Mark Get Set … Read!” The library is offering all kinds of fun programs to get brains buzzing this season. Join library staff for magicians, storytellers, crafts, local history about the Underground Railroad and a special guest from the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.
To continue the fun the library will be hosting a Children’s Summer Movies series every Wednesday in July at 2 p.m. Get out of the heat and enjoy a family-friendly film right here at Brown Library. Programs are for 3- to 12-year-olds. Events begin June 24 and run through July 29. Registration begins June 6.
All of the Summer Reading Program events will be held at the First United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall, located just across the street from Brown Library, unless otherwise noted. The movie showings will take place at the library in the upstairs meeting space.
The Teen Summer Reading Program is also returning this year with, “Exercise Your Mind. Read!” The library will be hosting several fun events that will get teens moving, reading and having fun. From yoga, karate and crafts, to an after-hours lock-in for the final event, there’s a special event for everyone. This program is for rising eighth-graders to graduating 12th-graders, and registration is required to attend all events this summer. Registration begins June 1. Sign up over the phone or at the library. Events begin June 18 and run through July 30.
For a full schedule of events for both programs, please grab a brochure from the front desk, or visit the Facebook page at facebook.com/GeorgeHLauraEBrownLibrary.
As always, the library would like to thank the Friends of the Brown Library for supporting the Summer Reading Program.
