The Washington Kiwanis Club has awarded $1,200 scholarships to three local Key Club seniors. The following were honored at a recent meeting: Sarah Woolard, Washington High School, and Megan Godley, Southside High School. The remaining recipient will be honored at a future club meeting.
Woolard, this year’s Key Club president at Washington High School, told club members of her plans to pursue an environmental studies degree at Appalachian State University. Godley told club members that she plans to pursue a nursing degree at East Carolina University. Godley was also Key Club president this past year at Southside High School.
Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including the Annual Lobster Sale, the Washington / Kiwanis Christmas Parade and the annual golf tournament.
The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
