JAMESVILLE — This weekend marks the beginning of the much-anticipated Little Tar Heel District 7 all-star baseball tournament. The four-day tournament will pit the best young baseball players from across Beaufort County against one another. They’ll also face teams from other areas like Williamston, South Edgecombe, Martin and more.

Jamesville hosts this year’s tournament at the Jamesville Little League ballpark. Games begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and there will be no shortage of action for the Beaufort County squads.

“We are pleased that we were chosen to host this great event,” a letter from the Jamesville league stated. “We look forward to hosting a very successful, fun tournament as well as hosting some very talented baseball players and their families.”

Hunter Chrismon checks a pitch he likes during a recent tournament game against Belhaven. Chrismon and Washington’s 10U all stars take on county rival Chocowinity at noon on Saturday in their first game of the Little Tar Heel tournament.

Beaufort County will be well represented by teams from Washington, Bath, Belhaven, Chocowinity and more. The action starts Saturday at 10 a.m. The first Beaufort County team in action will be the Chocowinity 12U all stars. They will face the hosting 12U Jamesville team.

Two Beaufort County teams will square off against each other early in the tournament. In the 10U division, Washington and Chocowinity will meet in a first-round matchup that should provide plenty of early entertainment.

That is the only intra-county game slated for the first round. There could be others later on in the tournament, depending on how it unfolds. The Belhaven 10U all stars will play at 2 p.m. After that, Bath’s 10U all stars will take the field at 4 p.m.

Bath 14U (2 p.m. start) and Belhaven 12U (4 p.m. start) rounds out Beaufort County’s schedule for opening day on Saturday.

Belhaven 10U pitcher Tyler Gibbs throws to a batter during a recent tournament. Gibbs and the Belhaven 10U all stars play their first Little Tar Heel tournament game at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Schedules for Sunday and beyond will not be known until the results of Saturday’s games.

Games will be played on three fields at the Jamesville Little League ballpark: 10U games will be played on Field 1, 14U on Field 2 and 12U on Field 3. The park will have a fully functioning concession stand with food, snacks and drinks.

The entry fee for anyone 13 years or older is $5. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 can get in for $3. Children younger than 4 years old will get in for free.
