Teachers at Tyrrell Elementary School in Columbia are already preparing for the upcoming school year, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent of Tyrrell County Schools, reported recently. 

From June 27 to July 1, grade level teams had math staff development with math coach Marta Garcia. Garcia returned to Tyrrell County to continue her support of elementary teachers as they worked with the Math Investigations curriculum. Teachers created yearly pacing documents and began making the supporting materials for each of the mathematics units.

Teachers will continue throughout the summer to prepare for full implementation of this new math curriculum for the new school year.

Garcia will continue to provide guidance and support to the teachers of Tyrrell Elementary School during this first full year of implementation through math training workshops, classroom observations and opportunities to team teach the new curriculum, Hoffman stated.
