Mrs. Evelyn Smith Ingalls Seagle, age 88, of Stokes and a former resident of Washington, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Oakdale Cemetery, conducted by Danny Barrow and Todd Parrish.
Mrs. Evelyn was born in Beaufort County on June 22, 1928, daughter of the late Frank W. and Martha Browning Smith. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1946. Mrs. Evelyn was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the choir, Adult Sunday School Class and the Ladies Group, WAC as long as her health permitted.
On September 11, 1946, she married William E. (Bill) Ingalls, who preceded her in death on October 29, 1997. On December 17, 2000, she married Martin Clifton Seagle, who survives.
Surviving with her husband Martin of Greenville, TN are three sons: Elwood L. Ingalls and wife Betty, Walt Ingalls and wife Faye, both of Washington, and Dalton Ingalls and wife Judy of Rocky Mount; two daughters: Jo Ann Ingalls Fitchett and husband Bill of Stokes and Martha Ingalls of Whitakers. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Brian Ingalls and wife Carol, Jeff Ormond and Rose, both of Washington and Jennifer Harris and husband Tony of Stokes; three great-grandchildren: Ashlan Pierce and husband Andrew of Bowling Green, KY, Avery Ingalls of Washington and Nicholas Hoover of Stokes; a stepdaughter: Janice Winchester of Greenville, TN; five step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Evelyn is preceded in death by her brothers: Deward H. Smith and Elbert B. Smith.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM on Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, 901 N. Bonner Street, Washington, NC 27889 or to the charity of one’s choice.
