Frances Lillian Warren Tack, 85, died July 26, 2016 at Plantation Estates in Matthews after a brave journey with Lewy Body Dementia. Fran was born November 11, 1930 in Edward, NC, the only child of Ernest Edward and Elizabeth James (Stubbs) Warren. Fran graduated from Aurora High School and attended Women’s College (now UNCG) before transferring to Medical College of Virginia (now VCU) where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1954. Fran subsequently entered the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving four years in the Navy Nurse Corps, including a tour of duty in the Philippines where she met and married her husband, Curtis Allen Tack, who preceded her in death in 2014.

As Fran and Curt relocated over the years for Curt’s Navy career, Fran worked in a variety of capacities, including hospital, public health and school nursing. She was also a nurse educator for much of her career, with her last teaching position being at what is now Rowan Cabarrus Community College.

In addition to her roles as Navy wife, mother, nurse and educator, Fran engaged in volunteer work, enjoyed golf and bowling, did cross stitch and needlepoint, was a voracious reader and excelled at bridge. She was an energetic, intelligent and self-possessed woman, with a quick wit and deep concern for those around her.

Fran is survived by her only child, Frances Ernestine (Frankie) Tack and daughter-in-law, Dr. Deana Frances Morrow of Charlotte.

A memorial service to celebrate Fran’s life will be held at Plantation Estates, 701 Plantation Estates Dr. in Matthews, NC, on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 2 pm in the auditorium. Family visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region. The family gives special thanks to all the loving caregivers of Plantation Estates and Hospice.
