Mr. Neal M. Jones, age 90, a resident of Washington, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 29, 2016 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Washington.

Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born on August 29, 1925, in Genesee County, MI, son of the late Neal Jones and Alberta Brown Jones. On December 10, 1955, he married the former Joyce Marshall. Mr. Jones was employed as an insurance agent until his retirement. He loved to read and was a Mason and Shriner, a member of the V.F.W and a member of MENSA. Mr. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church and worked with the Caring Christian Carpenters. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II.

In addition to his wife, Joyce of the home, he is survived by two sons: David Jones and wife Kathy of Chocowinity and Daniel Jones and wife Lynne of Lenoir; two brothers: Gary Jones of PA and Tim Jones of Matthews and two sisters-in-law: Barbara and husband Dr. Charles Stout of Asheboro and Sarah Summerfield of Hopewell, VA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Cathy Hedrick and husband Chris, Caleb Jones, Ivey Jones, Russell Lewis and wife Betty and Ian Jones; three great-grandchildren: Katie Ann Hedrick, Hunter Hedrick, A.J. Lewis and was awaiting the arrival of number four on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the home.
