The Washington (evening) Rotary Club gathered late Thursday at the Washington Yacht & Country Club for their weekly meeting. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members moved to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business.

President McLawhorn called the meeting to order, and Norm Koestline led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bartow Houston directed in one verse of “My Country ’Tis of Thee,” and Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

After dinner, President McLawhorn called on program Chairman Charlie Brown to introduce the guest speaker. Members were delighted to hear from the newly selected executive director of Arts of The Pamlico, Debra Torrence. Mrs. Torrence presented handouts previewing many upcoming events and talked about current changes taking place. For example, more artists are becoming involved, offices have been moved and the retail area expanded, plus there is a new kids’ area. Also the Turnage has turned out to be a successful and affordable wedding venue. At the close of the program, Charlie and Pat Brown presented Mrs. Torrence with a check and encouraged others to do the same. A great evening concluded as Rocky Jacobs led members in reciting The Four Way test.
