James E. Alston Sr.

James Edward “Jimmy” Alston Sr., 78, of 112 Roberts Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in his home where he was surrounded by his family.

Mr. Alston was born in Bertie County on April 5, 1938, and was the son of the late H.H. and Louise Cowan Alston. A retired Captain with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission after 30 years of employment, he attended Countryside Church of Christ, was a lifetime member of the Carteret County Law Enforcement Association, had received the NC Wildlife Officer of the Year Award, had served as president of the American Legion Post #40 Baseball Booster Club and had served in the NC National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Saunders; and by his brother, Hartwell Alston.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ann Mitchell Alston; his daughter, Page Alston Blackburn and husband Graham of Chocowinity; his son, James Edward Alston Jr. and wife Leslie of Aurora; his sister, Delores Blanton of Windsor; two grandchildren, Danni Alston and Madison Page Blackburn; and a great-grandson, J.D. Manning.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by Ministers Bob Brock and Roy Savage. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
