A man was shot in Aurora during the early hours of Monday morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Charlie Rose said authorities received a call at about 1:30 a.m. regarding a shooting off of N.C. Highway 33, near N.C. Highway 306 in Aurora, and began investigating shortly thereafter.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing the identity of the victim at this time, but Rose said it is a young, white male.

The victim was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was shot multiple times and was scheduled to go into surgery Monday.

Rose said his injuries are serious, but not thought to be life threatening.

“We’ve already been receiving tips and calls on it,” Rose said, adding that the calls began coming in almost immediately. “We’re going to see if any of those leads pan out.”

Authorities believe there are multiple suspects involved in the shooting and that it may have been an attempted robbery.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the sheriff’s office continued to work through the night Monday on tracking the leads.

“We’re still putting pieces together on it,” Rose said.
