CHOCOWINITY — Proud owners of sporty cars, trucks and motorcycles are being recruited to take part in the upcoming Road Warrior show, which benefits Unity Christian Academy in Chocowinity.
“Shine them up and get them out here the day of the show,” said event chairman Jeff Hardy. “Just come on out and enjoy the day.”
The event is planned for Oct. 1.
The automobile show is the focal point of a fall festival of activities held at Haw Branch Church of Christ, site of the school. Also planned are a hot dog sale, bake sale, children’s activities and a craft bazaar.
“This is the first time we’ve done the bazaar,” Hardy said. “We want a whole-family event, and we’re trying to have something for everybody. This is an evangelical event for our church and a fundraiser for the school.”
This year marks the fourth time UCA has hosted the automobile show, and the event has increased in popularity. Trophies are awarded in a variety of categories, including best car, best truck, best motorcycle and best late model, reserved for vehicles manufactured in 1996 or later. The most coveted award is the Warriors’ Choice trophy.
A raffle is planned to raise money for playground equipment and gym bleachers, and the sale of pork loin plates will be just another reason to drop by Haw Branch the day of the festivities.
“The students are selling tickets now, but we’ll have plates available the day of the show,” Hardy noted. “They are available as long as supplies last.”
The show kicks off with registration between 9 a.m. and noon, and other activities run from late morning through the afternoon.
Unity Christian Academy and Haw Branch Church of Christ are located at 1501 Haw Branch Road in Chocowinity.
