The Down East Seniors Club held its Oct. 5 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Ed Hamrick led the meeting. Chip Ide led the singing of “God Bless America,” and Charlie Mike Smith gave the invocation. Dick Paul provided humor.
Bill Cates introduced Dr. Pack Hindsley, retired urologist. Hindsley told about the experiences he and his wife, Jan, have had with the Friendship Force and medical missions. Friendship Force connects people from different countries with each other to enable them to visit each other. The visiting family stays in the home of the family they are visiting for a few weeks. The visitors get to see how the host family lives and to visit some attractions within the region. From these experiences they can better understand the culture of the host family’s country. The Hindsleys have hosted visitors from Holland, England, Germany, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. They have visited in England, Brazil, Japan, Turkey, Colombia and Nicaragua. He has been to Haiti several times for medical missions. He showed a collection of hats he had from the different countries he has visited.
Bill Cates won the 50/50 drawing.
