A locally produced horror film is an official selection at the inaugural Halloween International Film Festival in Kill Devil Hills.
“Pocosin,” a short film by Haunted Pamlico of Washington, will be screened Thursday, the opening day of the three-day festival, at RC Theatres Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills. The film stars local actors Gary Woolard, Julia Stephenson Furlough and Robin and Jonathan Garrett.
“Pocosin” was written and directed by S. Kruger and Crystal Holman. The film was edited, the score written and the voice-over recorded by Justin Casey. Kruger shot the piece at Goose Creek State Park. Holman was makeup artist for the shoot, and was assisted by Nannette Garrett, mother of Robin and Jonathan.
Haunted Pamlico is an all-volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to Halloween-oriented activities, including horror filmmaking. Haunted Pamlico has produced 20 short films and promotional videos in less than two years. Most of these films can be found on the organization’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Haunted Pamlico recently became an affiliate of Arts of the Pamlico, the regional arts council serving Hyde, Beaufort and Washington counties. This has enhanced the group’s ability to co-host and promote haunted events in the area, Kruger said.
