Tyrrell County Schools has been awarded an $18,000 grant from Trillium Health Resources for playground equipment.

The school district will use matching funds to add a large piece of playground equipment at Tyrrell Elementary School.

A new swing set, upgraded basketball goals and a new tennis court net will be added to the Children’s Playground on Fonsoe Street.

Finally, these funds will help establish a safe basketball area behind Van Horne Auditorium where students can play basketball on two 10-feet goals and a specified court area.

“Tyrrell County Schools seeks to establish through these grant funds upgraded play areas to enhance the lives of children both during school and in the community,” said Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent.
