Student councils to donate shoes

The student councils at both Tyrrell Elementary School and Columbia Middle School are collecting new, unused children’s shoes through Nov. 17 to donate to Kendall’s Closet.

Kendall’s Closet is a program started by six-year-old Kendall Hagerman who attended a mission meeting with her grandparents this summer and saw pictures of children in Appalachia that had no shoes.

She was so upset by the pictures that she decided to begin collecting new shoes. She set a goal to collect 500 pairs of new shoes to be delivered to Kentucky and West Virginia in December.

Each member of the student councils at both schools have been asked to donate a pair of new shoes (any size, from infant to teen) to help support the cause.

Anyone else that would like to drop off a new pair of shoes at either school may do so during school hours to Barbara Rhodes at Tyrrell Elementary School or Jennifer Westcott at Columbia Middle School.

On Nov. 18, Kendall and her parents will visit Columbia to pick up the shoes that are collected at both the elementary and middle schools.

Kendall Hagerman is a first-grader at Fayetteville Street Christian School in Asheboro.
