The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members moved to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order, and Zeno Edwards led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Todd Williamson led in one verse of “America,” and Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal.

Program chairman Dr. Jay Sullivan was called upon to introduce his guest speakers. Representing Washington Montessori Public Charter School were Darla Prescott, directress of education and academics and Austin Smigel, director of administration and finance. They did a great job explaining the Montessori method of education, how the school is funded and the lottery-based admission process. After several questions, both were presented the highly coveted Rotary pen. President McLawhorn shared several awards presented to the club Wednesday night at the District Foundation meet in Williamston. He also reminded members that next week’s meeting is Charter Night. This is a special time for members past and present. Rocky Jacobs closed the meeting by leading members in reciting the Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
