Employees with Washington Public Works took over West Main and Market streets on Friday, decorating trees lining both streets with Christmas lights. Tuesday, the City of Washington, Arts of the Pamlico and other organizations will close off West Main Street between Respess and Market for “Light Up the City,” the official lighting of the trees for the holiday season. Featuring music and refreshments at the Turnage Theatre and downtown merchants with later shopping hours, the event runs from 5:30-7 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
