Six students at Beaufort County Community College have been awarded a scholarship established by the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation to fund studies by those in short-term training programs.

Sierra Daughton of Washington is a student in the nurse aide I program. William Tanner Equils of Swan Quarter is working toward certification as a basic emergency medical technician. Gary Lewis of Washington is working toward a commercial driving license.

Nicole Palin of Plymouth is a student in the substance abuse counseling program. Iris Ward of Washington is a student in the phlebotomy program. Tiffany Westmoreland of Chocowinity is working toward nurse aide II certification.

The scholarships are intended to remove financial barriers for students seeking to gain new or upgrade current job-related skills.

“The Division of Continuing Education is delighted to announce the awarding of these scholarships,” said Sara Watson, director of customized training at BCCC and coordinator of the SECU scholarship program. “These funds are helping students from all over the service area and across many vocational fields move forward in their careers.”
