The Town of Columbia was recently awarded a $25,000 grant that will aid in establishing Waypoint Oyster Bar on Main Street, a new business that intends to create five fulltime jobs.
The Building Reuse Grant was made through the Rural Economic Development Division within the state Department of Commerce.
According to an announcement from the Division, the start-up company is to be a full-service restaurant and caterer specializing in local seafood.
The building, constructed by Seldon and Martha Combs in 1932, has been vacant since last spring.
Renovations include flooring, plumbing and HVAC, the announcement stated.
The grant is part of a total capital investment of $699,511, according to the Division.
The Combs Building’s most recent occupant was Old Salt Oyster Bar.
The town’s original grant request was for $80,000, town manager Rhett White said on Nov. 7.
