Tyrrell County Schools has been invited to participate in an E-Book program that will allow students to select from thousands of books made available by the public libraries in Chowan, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent, announced on Nov. 18.

These books will be compatible with a wide variety of electronic devices, including computers, e-readers, tablets and smartphones.

There will be no overdue or lost items fines since the books are checked in automatically when the lending period expires. Special library E-cards will be made available in the coming weeks, but students will still need a regular library card to check out print books from the Tyrrell County Library.

Debbie Davenport, Librarian and Branch Manager of the Tyrrell County Public Library, said, “With the growing trend of e-books and the importance placed on emerging technologies in education, this program partnership between Tyrrell County Schools and the Pettigrew Regional Library System seems like a natural solution to help educate our children in the many realms of literacy and technology.”
