RALEIGH — The Republican challenging North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood has conceded that she won the job for another four years, as a nearly completed statewide recount shows the Democratic incumbent keeping a small lead.
Chuck Stuber congratulated Wood on Friday for her victory. He says it appears his campaign would come up short on the vote count. The partial recount totals show Wood leading by a little over 6,000 votes. The final results for auditor won’t be certified until early next week.
Wood was first elected auditor in 2008.
Another race not yet certified is one for a state House district covering parts of Wilson and Pitt counties. There, GOP Rep. Susan Martin of Wilson has claimed victory after The Wilson Times reported that recount has been completed.
