Pam Pack JV has excellent season

Things didn’t go so well in 2016 for Washington’s varsity football team, but the junior varsity squad showed plenty of promise for the future. The Pam Pack finished its JV campaign with a 6-3 record and earned a share of the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference championship.

The boys enjoyed success against some impressive non-conference foes. They routed Conley, 30-6, and shutout Kinston, 14-0.

In league play, the Pam Pack earned key wins over Beddingfield, North Pitt and North Johnston. The win over the Bruins was lopsided, 26-0, while the other two were more closely contested.

Washington’s only conference losses came at the hands of Farmville Central and Southwest Edgecombe. The latter was a 40-18 thumping in favor of the Cougars.

A handful of individuals shined during this season, and should be impact players at the varsity level before long. Running backs Kaci Foreman and Tyshawn Roberson each scored 14 touchdowns. Sherfied Smith and Montrice Shelby led the way on defense.

The experience at the JV level will be useful as Washington experiences a bit of a rebuilding period. It helped varsity quarterback Frederick Holscher for getting suddenly thrown into the starter role just days before the season opener, and will help each get ready to make an impact at the next level.
