House fire in Washington

Authorities responded to a structure fire at a house on Diamond C Road a little before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Owned by Thomas and Victoria Carrow, the home was a total loss, although some items inside may be salvageable.

Victoria Carrow said she had just left the house to pick up the couple’s two children from school when a family member called about the fire. Her mother called 911, according to family members. Thomas Carrow was at work in Vanceboro.

Crews quickly got the fire under control. The incident was still under investigation, but authorities believe it may have been caused by a frayed wire on the Carrows’ stereo. Fire crews were assessing the burned and melted stereo equipment at the scene Tuesday.

Victoria Carrow said she couldn’t believe how it all happened so fast and spread quickly. She said there were no appliances left on when she left.

Clark’s Neck Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS, Pinetown Volunteer Fire, Bunyan Volunteer Fire, Beaufort County EMS and Chocowinity Fire responded to the scene.
