Introduction to Ed2Go

Justin Rose, director of occupational extension, will present the Education 2 Go training classes offered through the Department of Continuing Education. These user-friendly, online classes are perfect for the budding entrepreneur, small business owner or a rising small business leader to grow both personally and professionally. During this workshop, Rose will introduce attendees to Ed2Go, show basic navigation through the site, answer questions and register those ready to begin. This is the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs to expand their knowledge of starting a business, as well as business owners who want to train their expanding workforce.

Most Ed2Go courses begin at $70 for six-week classes that can be completed from anywhere. These easily navigable classes offer education in topics such as starting a small business, creating a successful business plan, starting a nonprofit, A-Z grant writing and soft skills for the workplace.

This program puts training at the participants’ fingertips. They will find out how it can benefit their future or current business. This class will take place on Jan. 19 from 3-5 p.m.

How to Start a Business with SCORE

On Jan. 23, SCORE will lead a workshop on starting a business.

Participants will learn if they are ready to start a business and the advantages and disadvantages to their new business. They will also learn about permitting and licensing, how to maintain objectivity and get information about taxes. The workshop is free and runs from 3-5 p.m.

Manage your Debt and Credit Prior to Starting your Business

Securing funds to start a business requires more than just a solid business plan. Credit scores and personal credit history matter. Participants will understand what lenders are looking for when reviewing a loan application and greatly increase their odds of getting approved. Preplanning and proper positioning are crucial, and this seminar will demonstrate how to do it. Topics include how a FICO score is determined, how credit bureaus operate, how to obtain, review and understand a personal credit report, how to significantly increase a credit score in as little as 90 days, techniques to rapidly reduce or eliminate debt, and how to deal with inaccurate or derogatory information in a credit file.

Greg Frank, owner of the Financial Fitness Center & Superior Credit Care, brings more than 15 years of experience in the debt and credit field to his work. In addition to being a consumer advocate specializing in debt and credit issues, Frank is also coauthor of the popular textbook, “Invest in Your Debt,” and a certified seminar leader who teaches in colleges, churches and other venues throughout the Southeast. The free workshop will be on Jan. 26 from 2-5 p.m.

Eat to Live Exercise Session

BCCC will hold an Eat to Live exercise session at the college on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. in Building 10. Participants will be taught how to use the free exercise equipment on the walking trail and will be invited to sample free healthy foods. The free sessions are sponsored by Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and MDC Grants to help Beaufort County residents learn about healthy living.

The College Grill will be preparing the free food samples. Door prizes will be given out to the first 50 attendees. Students, employees and community members are welcomed.
