Time for the ‘silent’ majority to speak up

To the Editor:
I am so very tired of the rhetoric of the heart-bleeding liberals, it is time for the ”silent” majority to quit being silent and speak up. Yes, it is because we have been silent that the country was surprised by the outcome of the presidential election. It is time for the country to be returned to “us,” the people, to no longer be controlled by minority demands. Now I wonder if our very liberal leaning Washington Daily News will actually publish this.
My brothers and I were raised to work first, then play. We lived through World War II on the wrong end of things. We survived 24-hour bombing runs with a bomb being dropped across the street where the air pressure raised havoc with our home. My mother’s very pregnant body shielded me on a lounge chair in our basement. Our place was a total mess, windows totally blown out, it took us more than a year to pick glass splinters out of our piano. It was cold and my breath caused ice to form on my bed cover during the night. Passing out from hunger (there was no food to be had) was a daily occurrence for me. In addition to all this came the report that our father was missing in action in Russia and was never to be seen again.
With all this, we survived and most fortunately, were offered sponsorship by an American friend to come to the United States. In those days, there were quotas for each country and immigrants had to have sponsors who would be totally financially responsible for their charges. It took us a year to get the permit, and never once did we ever apply nor receive government aid of any kind. In order to get a driver’s license, I had to have command of the English language and my request for possible translation (if needed) from my older brother, was refused. My brothers and I worked a variety of jobs and paid for our college educations and were rewarded with well-paying managerial and executive positions in industry. Immigrants from years past were anxious to assimilate and become Americans, so many of the current Muslim “refugees” are not at all interested in this and want to impose their ways on us. As an example, one only needs to check out Dearborn, Michigan, with the largest Arab concentration in the U.S.
As a female employee in a managerial position with one of the big three automakers, I too was exposed to numerous derogatory and sometimes sexual comments. That was years ago, and having been raised with brothers, just let it run off. There was a time I was passed up for a promotion strictly because I was female. Things like that happened, but times have changed. Now there are so many restrictions about what an employer can do, say or ask, I wonder how one can really make a good assessment of a prospective employee.
When Obama was re-elected, did the conservatives demonstrate, did they destroy things, did they burn flags? We quietly ingested our disappointment and hoped for the best. We are Americans, we cherish our freedom of speech, our right to bear arms and the right to disagree but not to destroy. I love my adopted country and I love God and am anxious to return to Judeo/Christian values. Wake up America, the old adage to “work hard and you will succeed” still holds true.
