Billy T. Thompson

Billy Talmadge Thompson, 77, of 674 White Oak Road, Plymouth, died Thursday evening, Feb. 2, 2017, at his residence.

Born in Newton Grove, Sampson County, on Nov. 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Ira and Isabel Watkins Thompson. He was first married to Peggy Vester Thompson who preceded him in death.

Billy was the founder, owner and operator of Sentry Exterminating Company of Plymouth for 43 years, a member of Plymouth Lions Club, was a private pilot, a member of the local board of Southern Bank, a member of Plymouth Flying Club, a proud sponsor of Relay for Life and a member of First Baptist Church of Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Plymouth. Rev. Jimmy Hagwood will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

His survivors include his wife, Judy House Thompson; three sons, Terry Thompson and wife Susan, of Plymouth, Ronnie Thompson and wife Teresa, of Roper, Joseph Thompson and wife Sherry, of Clayton; a daughter, Margie T. Gurkin and husband Wynne, of Wilson; a brother, Glenn Thompson and wife Nora, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Scott Thompson, Laura T. Barber and husband Nolan, Cameron Gurkin, Olivia Gurkin, Trent Thompson and Nicholas Thompson; step-grandchildren, Jonathan Gurkin, Matthew Gurkin, Jennifer Simons and husband Matthew, Jason Edwards and wife Ericka and special caregiver and friend Jackie Clagon

Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by siblings, Daniel Ray Thompson, Emmett Thompson, Alvin Thompson, Jerry Thompson and Louise T. Moss.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Plymouth on Saturday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
