Southside picks up second win

CHOCOWINITY — Southside coach Sean White said that the fourth quarter of Friday’s 66-54 win over Bear Grass. The Seahawks, which earned their second win of the season, scored 22 points in the final eight minutes.

Southside has struggled to close out games recently. Demetrius Ebron and Josh Toler got to the free-throw line plenty of times. They combined to earn 11 of those 22 fourth-quarter points at the charity stripe.

Ebron led the way with 26 points. Toler, who was hot from long range, added another 15. Southside moved on to play at Riverside on Saturday.

 

Lady Panthers upend Jones Senior

PINETOWN — Northside knocked off a struggling Jones Senior team, 44-41, on Friday evening. The Lady Panthers bounced back from a lopsided loss to top-ranked Pamlico County earlier in the week by hanging on for a one-possession win.

Prior to Friday’s highly anticipated senior-night game against Southside, the Lady Panthers will be tasked with taking on another formidable squad in Lejeune.

 

Lady Seahawks steamroll Bear Grass

CHOCOWINITY — Southside scored 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 52-27 manhandling of Bear Grass on Friday. The win marked its third in four games and evened its 1-A Coastal Plains Conference record at 5-5.

Symone Ruffin was one rebound shy of a triple-double. She finished the contest with a team-high 20 points, 10 steals and nine boards. She was a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc.

The Lady Seahawks’ defense contained Bear Grass throughout the game. The visitors never scored more than nine points in a period. It helped them take a 30-10 lead into halftime.

 

Northside obliterated by Jones Senior

PINETOWN — Jones Senior was unstoppable from 3-point range Friday night at Northside. The visiting Trojans made 12 times from behind the arc to handle the Panthers, 108-64.

Rashod Smith had 19 points for the Panthers, and Bryson Radcliffe added another dozen. Northside takes on Lejeune Wednesday before hosting Southside for senior night.
