From Washington County Schools

PLYMOUTH — Washington County Early College High School is set to open in August.

An information session will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Beaufort County Community College’s Washington County Center in Roper (old Windows of the World building) for rising freshmen and sophomores and their parents who live in Washington County. This session will provide more details about Washington County Early College High School, which will be the third high school located in Washington County.

WCECHS will offer students an opportunity to pursue a college degree or up to two years of transferable college credits that align to the workforce needs of the immediate area and northeastern region of North Carolina.

The advantages of attending WCECHS include exposure to an engaging and rigorous curriculum that includes STEM, problem-based learning, field experiences and work-based learning experiences, an opportunity to obtain an associate degree and/or two years of transferable college credit at no cost to students or their parents and access to college sooner. Although all students and parents are welcome to attend the information session, the target student population for the WCECHS is first-generation college students, students who could benefit from an accelerated curriculum and students at risk of dropping out of high school.

Dr. Delilah Jackson, superintendent of Washington County Schools said, “I am very excited about this opportunity for the students of Washington County Schools. Upon my arrival to the district, I began to inquire about this process and it is now a reality. Selected students will have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and a two-year degree. Career and college readiness is a priority in order for our students to enter into the workforce. Special thanks to Ms. Fannie Williams and Dr. Crystal Ange for your hard work and dedication to this process. We are looking forward to our continued partnership with Beaufort County Community College.”
