FAIRFIELD — It’s almost that time of year again.

Hyde County Hotline is gearing up for its third-annual Race Across the Lake, set for April 1, near the intersection of N.C. Highway 94 and North Lake Road at Lake Mattamuskeet.

The hotline organizes the event each year to raise funds for its mission to eliminate domestic and sexual abuse in Hyde County.

The trail is 7 miles one way, and is described as mostly straight and flat. Participants can sign up for a 5K (just over 3 miles) or a 10K (6.2 miles).

“The serenity and beauty of the Lake with its abundance of water habitat makes the view and running experience both scenic and enjoyable,” hotline advocate Rhonda Ballance wrote in an email.

Ballance said organizers have tweaked some details this year, including changing the locations of some of the water stations along the way.

Entry fees are $25 for adults 15 and older, $15 for ages 10-14 and $8 for children 9 and under. Participants in the two older groups will be awarded medals for first through third places.

Those interested are asked to register before March 1 for a guaranteed registration packet, but registrants will be accepted up until the morning of the race. Entry fees may be higher on race day.

Ballance said she is hoping to see this year’s race be the best one yet.

“The feedback from past races has been extremely positive, and we feel this race will exceed past events,” she wrote.

Participants can register at www.runtheeast.com/races, or contact Hyde County Hotline at 252-925-2502. For more information, visit hydecounty-hotline.org or the Hyde County Hotline Facebook page.
