D. Bryan Deal

Mr. Detty “Bryan” Deal, age 87, a former resident of Chocowinity, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Rev. Kevin Woolard. Burial with Red Men Rites will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Frankie Buck, Richard Gerard, Rod Lewis, Al Leggett, Mike Jones and Eddie Congleton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Snody Carrow, Rusty Carrow, Walter Cutler, Kenneth Page, Ken Spivey, Clyde Roberson and Douglas Branch.
Mr. Deal was born in Beaufort County on November 7, 1929. He was the son of the late William Detty Deal and Addie Smithwick Deal. Mr. Deal was a retired sub-station supervisor with the City of Washington Utilities Department with over 42 years of service. He was a member of the Tau Tribe No. 18, Improved Order of Red Men and Woodmen of the World, Lodge 623. Mr. Deal was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Senior Adult Sunday School Class and the Deacon Board as long as his health permitted. In his spare time, he loved working in his garden and cutting the grass.
On July 7, 1950, Mr. Deal married Virginia Tyer, who preceded him in death, October 23, 1998. On March 31, 2000, he married Shirley Dixon Peed, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his stepchildren, Donna P. Bennett, Doug of Chocowinity, Sonja K. Lane, Al of Richmond Hill, NY, Rhonda P. Taylor, Randy of Chocowinity, Richard D. Peed Jr., Kristen of Washington, Mark S. Peed, Carrie of Chocowinity; grandchildren, Jessica D. Woolard, Joshua of Washington; step-grandchildren, Todd Gaskins, Lexi Cordon, Cody, Evan and Wilson Peed, Kayla, Alyssa and Stephen Peed; great-grandchildren, Colby Woolard, Felicity Woolard; step-great-grandchildren, Cheradyn, Grace, Landon, Bently, Paisly and Traner Gaskins, Brianna and Fantazia Wiggins, Maddox Williams; daughter-in-law, Debbie Deal of Washington; sister-in-law, Ola Deal of Aurora and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Mr. Deal was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Deal; step-grandchildren, Amanda Gaskins, Steele Bennett and Heather Wiggins; step-great-grandson, Brennan Wiggins; three sisters and three brothers.

The family received friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Monday, February 20, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home, 145 Carawan Road, Chocowinity.
