The spring sports season at Washington picked up where it left off in a lot of ways. The 2016 postseason began with a blockbuster afternoon that saw the Pam Pack host three first-round playoff games. Even though the softball team went on to contend for a 2-A regional championship, that was the end of the road for two teams.

On Tuesday, the parking lots at Washington High School were packed. The Pam Pack hosted season openers for baseball, softball, soccer and tennis. Fans spent the lovely evening dispersed between the four games, some moving on to another after one’s conclusion.

Things went pretty well for Washington. The Lady Pack softball and soccer teams steamrolled their opponents, and the baseball team played well despite a 5-0 loss to Rose. Just as important as the strong start was for most of the teams was the strong fan support right off the bat.

There’s going to be a lot going on across Beaufort County this spring. This season isn’t like the winter where fans can catch girls and boys’ basketball doubleheaders multiple times a week. It’s harder to get out to see everyone play, but it’s worth the effort. Most of these teams are already showing tons of promise.

Northside and Southside both got wins in baseball and softball in their respective openers. The Lady Seahawks are fielding a soccer team for the first time. There’s a lot to follow. Just like every other season, these young athletes have put in plenty of work before their season openers earlier in the week.

And they’ll continue to put in plenty of work that will largely go unseen over the next few months. Sports fans in the county are encouraged to show their support for their favorite teams as many of them will be pursuing championships this season.
