GREENVILLE — Rose shutout Washington for the second time this season to complete the season sweep of the Pam Pack. The game was 3-0 after four frames, but the Rampants broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
N.C. State signee Hunter Christopher pitched the complete-game shutout. His mid-80s fastball led to nine Pam Pack strikeouts, but the visitors did hit the ball and put runners on. Washington just couldn’t get the key hit to push runs across, stranding seven baserunners.
Rose capitalized on five Washington errors. For the talented Pam Pack baseball club to reach its potential, the defense has to improve. Already young on the season, at least two games slipped away with shoddy defense. It has pitched well enough and scored enough runs to sport a better record than 1-4.
If the Pam Pack can shore up its defense, it still very much has the pitching and fire power to make noise come 2-A Eastern Plains Conference competition.
