Keith Edwin Bassett

Keith Edwin Bassett, 69, of Chocowinity, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, after suffering a heart attack on the golf course at Cypress Landing. Dutiful son, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, Keith was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 10, 1947. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife of 46 years, Sarah “Sally” Boyle; his brother Paul (Debra) Bassett of Chocowinity; sister Beverly (Frank) Hofmeister of Pittsburgh, PA; sons Ken (Colleen) Bassett, Brian (Stacy) Bassett, David (Christine) Bassett, all of Woodbridge, VA; and daughter Sara (Simeon) Zuger of Honolulu HI. Keith found tremendous joy in the love of his grandchildren Kyle, Kyrie, Gavin, Connor, Tyler, Alyssa, Alexandra, Avery, Elijah and Hannah.

A graduate of Duquesne University and George Washington University, he retired from 38 years of service in the Federal government as a management analyst for the Office of Child Support Enforcement. Throughout his life, he encouraged his family through his example of service to others. He has volunteered his service and made friends through his work in numerous community activities. He was especially devoted to helping those less fortunate. His charitable works included many years of summer work camps in Virginia to help repair homes, for the past eight years to provide food for the hungry through his favorite charity, the Eagle’s Wings program in Washington.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, on Wednesday, March 15th, at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington. The family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life at the Cypress Landing Bay Club, following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be given to Keith’s favorite charity http://www.eagles-wings.org/ or to the Chocowinity Emergency Medical Service, 512 NC Highway 33 East, Chocowinity, NC 27817 (Attn: AJ).
